The Incident
On August 10, 2024, an 18-year-old woman named Emily Hamilton was killed in a tragic car accident involving suspected drunk driving on Highway 101 in south San Jose.
The accident occurred around 11:40 p.m. as Emily was on her way home from a late shift at California’s Great America. Just five minutes from her house, her vehicle was rear-ended. She pulled over to exchange information, when a 43-year-old woman from Morgan Hill, suspected of driving under the influence, struck and killed her.
The suspect sustained minor injuries and was arrested for causing injury while driving under the influence. The incident led to the partial closure of the southbound lanes of Highway 101 until around 3:00 a.m. Sunday.
Emily’s father has since started a fundraiser to cover funeral expenses. The California Highway Patrol is urging anyone with information to contact them.
