What the CHP Reported
Officers from the California Highway Patrol's Contra Costa Area responded at about 3:06 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2026, to a three-vehicle crash on westbound Highway 4 east of Port Chicago Highway in Concord, according to the CHP and Bay Area news reports.
According to the CHP, a Volkswagen Jetta and a motorcycle collided, and the rider was thrown from the motorcycle. He was then struck by a Toyota Tundra pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Contra Costa County Sheriff-Coroner's Office identified him as Michael Scott Rigsby, 47, of Brentwood.
The CHP said the rider was wearing a helmet and the occupants of the Jetta and the Tundra were wearing seat belts. Officers said they did not suspect alcohol or drugs. Westbound Highway 4 was partially closed for more than three hours, with backups reaching into Pittsburg, before all lanes reopened shortly after 6:30 p.m.
