Fremont police officers responded just before 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, to a major-injury collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle at Hastings Street and Keats Street, according to the department and Bay Area news reports.
According to the preliminary investigation, the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Hastings Street when it collided with a passenger vehicle that was making a left turn from Keats Street onto southbound Hastings Street. The rider was unresponsive when officers arrived and was taken to a hospital, where he died. News reports identified him as Michael John Stafford Jr., 33, of Fremont.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was not injured and stayed at the scene. Police said it was Fremont's 10th fatal traffic collision of 2026 and asked anyone with information to contact the Fremont Police Department Traffic Unit at 510-790-6760.
